Safety covers

The requirements of the law

In accordance with the provisions of § II of article R 128-2 et seq. of decree n° 2004-99 of 07/06/2004:

"Covers must be made, constructed and installed in such a way as to prevent children under five years of age from accidentally falling in, withstand an adult stepping on them and not to cause injury."

"Considered as satisfying [these requirements] are those devices which comply with French standards or with the standards or technical specifications or manufacturing processes currently in force in a Member State of the European Community or another State which is a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, providing an equivalent level of protection.

A "safety cover" absolutely must:

• Prevent "children under five years of age from accidentally falling in",
• Withstand "an adult stepping onto it",
• Not "cause injury",
• Only consist of parts of which the component materials meet the chemical, physical and mechanical characteristics required by the standard.
  
• Satisfy, in terms of its design, manufacture and installation, the test requirements provided for by the standard.

• The implementation of a pool edge lip or the fitting of a handrail
• A pool cover locking system.

Of course all this assumes that close cooperation takes place between UNIBAD, the owner and the project manager, even at the design stage.
